Ball Brands was started by Alan Ball in 1968. Trading as Alan Ball Agencies, the business represented a wide variety of product lines: from hardgoods, to rifles, football boots, to fishing rods. ABA slowly evolved over time, and in 1992 began the transition from state focused agency business, to a truly national distributor when, under the management of Alan’s son, Ray, ABA took on Franklin Sports. Two years later, sports protection manufacturer Shock Doctor was added, and the business went about establishing these international brands in the local market.
In early 2010, the business added a third generation staff member, grandson of Alan and son of Ray, Matt Ball. Further reflecting its evolution and commitment to growth, was the subsequent decision to move from Alan Ball Agencies to Ball Brands. This step more accurately depicted the businesses guiding principle of growth through the acquisition and distribution of it’s own quality brands at competitive prices. Teeter Hang Ups (2012), McDavid (2016), Nathan Sports (2017) and KT Tape (2019), have since been added to the stable - each a premium, category leading brand.
